Biographies of our 2018 ABC/Bosnia Project W&M team:
~Hello! My name is Sarah Baker and I am a European Studies major and Italian Studies minor. I am a member of the William and Mary sailing team as well as a teaching assistant for the Italian language department. I have just returned from a semester abroad in Prague where my favorite day of the week I got to spend time teaching English to Czech school children. This experience along with my other experiences abroad and my interest in Europe and European Politics are what got me interested in the American Bosnian Collaboration. I cannot wait to further my knowledge and skills in Bosnia this summer! My email is email@example.com.
~Hi everyone! My name is Emma Evans; I am a junior studying Sociology and Business Management at the College of William Mary. On campus I am part Merrimac Mentors, a program that volunteers with the local juvenile detention center, I ride for the school’s equestrian team, and I am an outdoor trip leader for the Tribe Adventure Program. I love working with children, and have spent my past four summers teaching horseback riding at a summer camp. I am very excited to be able to continue to work with kids, in an entirely new environment and embrace the diversity of perspectives and experiences with enthusiasm. I am looking forward to fully immersing myself in Bosnia culture, and I am eager to learn from those I will have the chance to spend time with. Overall, I am honored to be able to learn from, and work with, my fellow students, co-teachers, and of course the kids participating in the program. You can reach me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
~Hello all! My name is Aaron Groves and I am a government major and religious studies minor on track to join the School of Education in 2020. Here at the college I am actively engaged in the men’s ultimate frisbee club and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry as well. Following my collegiate career, I hope to teach high school social studies, coach basketball, and continue my annual fishing trips to Ontario, Canada. As my hometown of Mouth of Wilson, VA featured no stoplights and only 1,200 people, I look forward to working with children of diverse backgrounds and cultural differences through the ABC project and cannot wait to see the beauty of Sarajevo! I can be reached at email@example.com.
~Hi everybody! My name is Peter Jones, I’m a junior and a Sociology major at William & Mary, and I’m super excited to be working with the ABC Project! Throughout my time at the College, and especially during my semester abroad in Spain, I have been introduced to and have learned how to engage with different people under diverse social perspectives. I always want to challenge myself to learn from my differences with other people, and I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to help others learn to do the same through the ABC Project. I was drawn to the Project by the immersion into a foreign and fast-paced environment, as well as the chance to work with kids and to engage with others about the importance of cross-cultural perspectives. When I’m not doing my homework, I like to cook, exercise and enjoy the outdoors. I can be reached via my email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
~Hello! My name is Samantha Strausser and I’m a junior studying English and Film & Media studies. My experiences at William & Mary, PBS, and NBC have made me passionate about making media accessible to all. I just returned from a semester in London where I studied Communications and Video Production and created a series of travel videos to document the experience. I’m excited to apply the skills I learned abroad into my work with the ABC project. I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to Europe and teach children communication skills through the lens of a camera. You can reach me via email at email@example.com.
